I’ve always had people ask questions about my hair and the products I use. So I thought I’d share a very short list of a few products that I think are the best products for straight afro hair. If I had to guess I’d say my texture is probably a 4a-3c according to the hair typing system. I wear it straightened for manageability.

I don’t use products daily though I have a few “everyday” products. I use different products at different points depending on where I am in proximity to wash day. Just after wash day, if I use any products I will use a serum or an oil. Heavier or more water based products are used the when my pressed style isn’t so straight anymore. My hair tends to wave after being straight for a while.

I honestly can’t say if the products that I use promote growth. I usually keep my hair at or around the same length. And I have kept this same length for years. I’ve never been super growth focused. I judge the products more on how they make my hair feel. I judge by if the products make my hair feel softer or feel healthier/stronger.

My Products for Straightened Afro Hair

Softee Growth Oil Thickening Formula

I can’t guarantee that Softee Growth Oil makes hair thicker. But it has made my hair feel thicker. It doesn’t take a lot to coat the hair either. Even for my length of hair all I use are a few drops. I massage it into my scalp and comb it through. It doesn’t make my hair feel weighed down or overly oily while still providing a sheen.

Garnier Fructis Leave in Conditioner

I bought **Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine in 2011 and I’ve bought it again and again ever since. It moisturizes very well and it does tame frizz just like it claims even on Afro-textured hair like mine. If just the right amount is applied it smooths and hydrates without making my hair revert. Maybe it doesn’t work this way on straight textures, but if I put a little bit too much it has the opposite effect and makes it frizzy. It also has a light fruity scent that which I like.

Styling Tip: One way I like to use this is to put it my my hair and sleep with my hair twisted in a low bun. And it makes my hair wavy when I talk the twist out the next day.

Palmers Olive Oil Formula Gro Therapy

Palmer’s olive oil tames hair. It’s good for slicking hair back . The texture is more like a hair grease but lighter and more watery. When it’s applied lightly, it gives hair a nice sheen. I’ve also found that for me it works better for dry scalp than hair grease marketed as dry scalp grease like sulfur 8. It also makes my hair shiny.

My container is old. It has a new look now. Here is a link **Palmers Olive Oil Gro Therapy

These are the top three products I like for daily use.

Have you used any of these? If so, did you like it? Also leave your hair favorites or recommendations in a comment if you have any whether you’re straight, wavy, or curly.

I’m interested in trying the last one, but unfortunately I don’t think it’s available in Germany. Hopefully, I’ll remember to try and find it when I visit the US again!

I think the packaging has been redesigned too. Mine is an old container of it. I’m not sure if it still has the same ingredients or consistency or anything. But if you can find it you should definitely try it out. 🙂
