It’s been a long while since I’ve done a color comparison. It’s time again for my next swatch file. I’ve opened up a brand new case. To me at least. This time I’ll be comparing two lip liners.

Mac Plum & Nyx Mahogany

A few years ago I discovered Mac Plum. I was really satisfied with my purchase. You can read about it here. Anyway, I got curious of what dupes were out there that are simillar to Plum. And I did some make up research as I do, and found Nyx Mahogany as a possible dupe. So I had to buy Nyx Mahogany to compare it because sometimes I just can’t resist putting a supposed dupe to the test. But surprisingly I didn’t test until now….a year later. It came to mind a few weeks ago that I had never compared these liners so I pulled both of them and they challenged each other to a duel….

Similarities

• Both muted
• Both plum shades

Differences

• Price Mac($25) Nyx Mahogany($6)
• Mahogany is a warmer than Plum.

Dupe Rating

I give it a C. They are clearly similar but not the same shade at all.

My Pick

If I had to choose between the two I’d go with Nyx Mahogany. I always choose warm colors over cool. So Nyx Mahogany is the best fit for me.

And that’s another swatch files case closed. Plum and Mahogany are not quite dupes. They’re more like cousins rather than twins. But they are both equally good lip liners.
