It’s been a while since I’ve posted a Self Care Saturday post. But I’ve been redefining routines and my ideas of self care. I’ve been focused less on makeup lately and more on skin care. For about the past decade and a half, I did take care of my skin with facial washes and cleansers. My favorites were Ambi Exfoliating Face wash and Biore’ Pore Cleanser. I used those religiously most mornings and every single evening. But my skin care routine fell off over the years in favor of makeup and regular degular soap and water. More recently, I’ve started to pivot away from being heavily makeup or foundation focused and more into moisturizing, cleansing, and researching skin care products and methods and how they work. And I’ve picked up a tip or two and I incorporated them into my own routine which works for me. And maybe some of my changes I’ve been trying to lighten my routine will speak to you.
1. Being less rigid
I do a routine more for the act of self care than to achieve certain results. And I try not to think my skin needs to look a certain way. I had never thought of it this way before. I should have its literally in the name. 😂But I think that’s a good way to look at it. To me its good to view skincare in a way where it isn’t really about maintain the condition of my skin(not that it doesn’t do that lol) or change it. And it’s also to not be so rigid in consistency. Maybe somedays I’ll forget and the regular degular soap and water I mentioned will be all that I use. 😂But that is okay.
2. Making it a sensory experience
Using my favorite products just for the sensory experience. I wash my face with favorite face wash just because I like how soft my skin feels afterwards or how it brightens my complexion a bit. I apply a moisturizer of my choice for the same reason or a lotion because I like the scent. I also add in a lip balm that’s moisturizing with a nice scent.
3. Slowing Down
When using a facial cleanser or exfoliator, I really try to remember to wash slowly and massage the skin. I’ve found that this is really relaxing. I don’t know how other people do their routines. But mine have always been quick and rushed. So I thought to myself let me go slow. What am I rushing for? And it makes the experience even more enjoyable.
It’s not just for Saturdays its for every day and any day. Wear a face mask, or do your skin care routine just for the sensory experience. Take time for you and take care just to take care.
Happy Saturday ☀️💖
