A lip liner that I never see talked about much is Mac lip liner in the shade Plum. It’s a beautiful natural shade that I think flatters brown skin very well. I learned about it from one YouTube video where it was mentioned as the wearers go to shade. It immediately went on my list because it was just the shade I was looking for. Before I purchased this one I looked all over the internet for swatches of it on brown skin and didn’t find any. I didn’t really find any on lighter skin either. All I had to go off of was this one video. And on the wearer it looked great. That was enough to sell me. Which leads me to a story of the day I purchased it from mac. It’s a quiet color and its not talked about much. But my experience the day I purchased it from the Dillards Mac counter was anything but a gentle and quiet experience.

Do you know how makeup counter girls are always supper peppy and friendly as if whoever does the “makeup counter girl” hiring scoured the nearest high school pep rallies and picked out all the cheerleaders with the most school spirit? They will come up to you wearing a big smile and hot pink lipstick and ask you if you need help whether you make eye contact or not. Well that’s how they were on the day I purchased this liner. Just times TEN.

I already knew what I was there for. When one of the ladies approached me while I was browsing, I told her what I was there for, bought it, and I went upstairs. This trip took all of 15 minutes. When I was headed back down I planned to go back because there was blush I forgot to test. And the closer I got I started hearing someone talking on a microphone. And I wondered what was going on. It turned out that the Mac Cheerleaders had set up a karaoke machine and were cheerfully greeting almost everyone who passed by. I hoped and prayed that they wouldn’t see me. But before the amen was fully formed, I heard one of the cheerleaders shout, “Oh my god! You’re back!!”. This is not what a shy person wants any part of lol. If I was thinking fast, I could’ve dodged the head cheerleaders line of vision and went around. But there was no where to run. It was really like a dream. You know the ones where the most random senseless things go on? Like you’re at home eating ice cream with a fork in front of a window and Ronald McDonald waves at your from the McDonalds across town? And then when you get up and walk away from the table, you find your dog in a bar having a drink? That’s what it was like to me at the time. Hey, I like to exaggerate things a bit sometimes but you know what i mean. LOL I had never heard of such a thing in my life. I get that some stores do have intercoms which is normal. But which of the cheer captains thought it was a good idea to set up a karaoke machine? Where did they get it from? Who carried that Karaoke Machine into work that day? Those are the questions I still have to this day.

Lip Liner Review

Anyway, it was worth the embarrassment. It goes with many different lipsticks. It is not a vivid plum it is a muted plum that can almost look brown if not applied heavily. It is such a muted color for such a loud experience.

From the pencil it looks dark but it is not dark nor is it super vivid. It is a muted medium plum. The swatch below shows just how muted and greyed out it is. I think its perfect for muted and olive skin tones and undertones if you are looking for a neutral lip liner. It is a bit different from your typical brown that you’d go for if you are of a deeper complexion. Plum is not really what you’d think of when you think of nude. But in the swatch below you can clearly see how mellow and natural it is. And from what I’ve seen plums look at home on brown skin.

To sum it all up, I recommend Mac Plum. It is a gem 💎 and well worth the purchase. It goes well with pinks, plums, nudes, and I even think it would work well with some reds.
