Confessions of a Beauty-Holic

1. I have collected so many polishes I don’t know need to go to the nail salon.

I’ve got every color I could want to wear: blues, pinks, reds, neutrals, blacks, and purples and even a green. And I have files, nail clippers, a buffer, cuticle oils and removers, top coats and base coats. The polish obsession has been with me as long as my makeup obsession. I probably have more polish than the average sane person. But I have seen bigger collections online. I just don’t want to think about how much my collection is worth.

2 .I always end up buying makeup that may not wear.

There are some products that I buy because I’m curious about how it will look on me. I may play with the colors and put them on and wear it at home for a little while. But that’s as far as it’ll go. It just goes into a separate collection of “not really my colors but fun to experiment with.” I’ve been trying to scale back. And since I’m more aware of what looks best on me now I am able to avoid a lot of useless purchases. But I have to admit. It’s fun to buy and try just for the fun of it. (On the more inexpensive end of course 😉).

3. I’ve thrown away a lot of products that didn’t get to use.

And yes I mean toss it if it’s way past the return date and I don’t like it. I’ve done it with all products such as nail polishes (which I have an excuse to throw away because they can get gooey.) And I also get rid of lip colors, blushes, eyeshadows, and even foundations if the color is just off or I can’t take the smell.

4.I’ll throw a product away and rebuy it later.

I know, it’s a little bit crazy. I’ve never done it with higher end makeup. Only drugstore. At one time I may think I don’t really like this all that much and I never wear it. Then get rid of it and a couple of years later I’ll ask myself, “Why did I ever get rid of that.” And then buy it again I think its a combination of hope and boredom. 😂 “Maybe it may just work this time. ” and “I’m kind of bored maybe I’ll try that color out again. I could’ve been seeing wrong last time.”

5.I’ll keep products I like for a long time that I really love.

My oldest makeup product is 7 years old . And my oldest nail polish is 13. I’ve read that powders can last a really long time they are stored properly. The little containers on makeup containers always have use by recommendations that usually say something like 18m or 24m. But that is not enough time to get enough use out of a product. I’ve kept compacts much longer than that. And guess what I’m still here. Not an issue in sight!

6. I have small collection of skin care that I don’t regularly use.

I buy facial washes and other skin care items but I can hardly ever stick to a solid routine. I’ll probably stick to a solid routine for about 5 days before it falls apart. 😂 And then I’ll use the skincare products sporadically as I remember or when my skin starts to break out.

7.I always have a running list of what I want to buy next.

I’ve got lists everywhere. I’ve got lipstick lists, blush lists, eyeshadow lists etc. And I start them and lose track of them and start new ones. Only one two or three ever get checked off of the list at any given time because they are that long. Which brings me to my next confession.

8. I can spend hours watching tutorials and searching for swatches or reviews.

I do this pretty much every day. It may not always be hours but I’ll end up looking up at least one makeup product on the internet..or at least a few. 😄 I enjoy looking at color swatch comparisons, searching for all the options I can find in a certain color in blush or lipstick. And I like watch get ready with me videos that show everyday makeup application and natural neutral looks. And sometimes I enjoy watching applications that have pops of color here and there. I like to watch or read reviews on makeup products no matter if they are new releases or have been around a while. I just look up what I’m interested in using. Which doesn’t help to make my list making more conservative.

9.I own a bunch of products in similar colors, but you can’t tell me that they aren’t different.

Come on now.  One may be a little darker than the other. And one may be a little cooler than it’s look a like. I have to see what a difference one shade darker will make. If you know, you know.

10. There are countless times someone has has to come to get me out of the cosmetics sections of drugstores.

At every store with a cosmetics section I will find my way there and look for a good while. And if I am with someone I’ll have left them behind. But whoever I’m with always knows exactly where to find me.

Got any confessions of your own that you want to share? Let me know below. LOL I surely can’t judge you.

I can relate to almost everything on this list. lol.
I have what I call the “makeup retirement shelf” where I store all the makeup that’s nostalgic to me or has gorgeous packaging that I’m too afraid to actually use on my face (from being old), but I don’t have the heart to get rid of them.
