Ever woke up and can’t get the sleepy look out of your eyes? I have and a cup of coffee will only take you so far. Makeup to look awake is helpful for mornings when you didn’t sleep or are feeling or looking tired. I’ve got a few makeup tricks up my sleeve that I think help me look more alive and awake in a few quick steps.
Step 1. Foundation
I apply a foundation first to even out my skin tone. A skin illuminator or a highlighter also helps me to look vibrant. I usually mix it in with foundation or I apply it lightly first then put my foundation over it.
Step 2. Concealer
Next, I put on an under eye concealer in a a shade a tiny bit lighter than my skin tone. I concentrate it more towards the inner eye closer to my nose. Sometimes I’ll extend it further down. But for the most part I just keep it close under my eyes.
Step 3. Powder
Any finishing powder will do translucent or a skin toned powder.
Step 4. Eyeliner
I use an eyeliner to thicken my lash line to make it look I have more eyelashes than I actually have. The way that you apply eyeliner can help to open up the eye. For the most eye opening results I keep eyeliner on just top lash line or just the bottom. If I want to wear it on my top and bottom lashes I only apply it on the outer half of my top and bottom lash lines. Only lining the outer eye can help the shape of your eyes to look rounder.
Step 5. Eyeshadow
I apply a neutral satin or slightly bright shimmery eyeshadow(in gold or bronze) or highlighter in in the middle of my upper eyelid and blend it outwards. It illuminates my eyes and helps to open them up more to make them look more awake. I also learned from experimentation that if I add a bit of highlighter, or the eyeshadow I used, to my bottom lash line it can help to make my eyes look more open.
Step 6. Mascara
I apply mascara to my eyelashes concentrated on outer corners giving them more definition than the inner eyelashes.
(Eyelash Curler > Optional)
Tip: Curl your eyelashes after you apply mascara. I find that curling them after applying mascara helps the lashes to curl better. I know a lot of makeup advice and articles on the internet say not to do it this way. And I get it because if your eyelashes are hard because of the product on them they can snap. But I can honestly say it doesn’t break my lashes. I’ve done it for years with no problems. I just press the curler gently you don’t have to squeeze them to death. lol If I curl my eyelashes before mascara I find that they don’t look any different. The weight of the mascara tends to pull them down.
Step 7. Blush
Next, I put on a blush in a color that I think looks most natural on me. That will usually be a soft peach or coral.
Step 8 Lips
The last step in wake up makeup is lip product. Clear lip gloss or sheer tinted lip balms are perfect for this kind of look. They provide a sheer tint of color and shine to help me look more vibrant and awake.
That sums up my makeup routine I use to help me look more awake. If you’d like you can leave your go to products or tips below.
