Your perfect pink lipstick doesn’t have to be a loud hot pink. I think that’s what most of us think of when we think of pink lipstick. But your best pink can be the one that is most fitting to you or even just the one that makes you feel good. Pink can be feminine and soft, loud and bold, or creative and playful. Like red lipstick, pink is another color that took me forever to find my shades. The first colors I went to were the Hot Pinks and the Fuchsias. Some of them looked okay but some of them looked plain horrible. The horrible ones made me look like I was about to audition for clown college. And I found that some were passable but something about them just weren’t quite right.
How To Find Your Perfect Pink Lipstick
The best way to find your perfect pink lipstick like any other makeup product is to know your undertone. Are you cool or warm? You can use a simple undertone test that you can find with a google search. Most undertone quizzes you’ll find online look something like this:

I think the best way to find your pink is just to try actual lipsticks in different tones and saturations. Try a cool and a warm pink. Buy cheapest ones at the drugstore just to test them out. Wet n wild has a cheap range of lipstick to select from. And brands like L.A. colors are cheap too just to experiment. Quality doesn’t matter when color testing. All you are looking for is a color direction to go in. In my experience it is best to test the colors in natural light so you can see the true color. Once you find what harmonizes you’ll be set for the higher end products without having wasted much money.
Cool Pink vs Warm Pink

Another thing to keep in mind is saturation. Don’t hesitate to try out colors that are less saturated and ones that are more saturated. Just because you are deeper doesn’t mean you have to wear the most vivid loud pink. And just because you may be lighter doesn’t mean you are automatically in the softer pink box. You may very well be able to wear the saturated and bold pinks.
My Pink Lipstick Favorites
The pinks that I have found that suit me best fit more into the neutral pink category. They are softer, sheerer, and pearly. Most of them lean more towards soft corals and soft sheer rosy tones or soft plums . Muted medium pinks that lean neutral/warm are my best pinks. I was hesitant at first to try these and I always overlooked them. Beauty articles have always recommended the brights, bolds, or very pigmented and highly saturated colors for deep skin. And most recommendations for softer pinks in most magazines are geared towards those on the lighter end of the spectrum. So when I ventured into those shades I was shocked to find that they worked well for me.
Here are a few pink lipsticks I’ve found that work best on me after much trial and error.
Mac Hug me

L’Oreal Sugar Plum

Revlon Rose n shine

Revlon matte lipstick Shameless

Revlon Pink Pearl

Mac Creme in Your Coffee

Maybelline Rum Riche

I’ve also swatched the colors below. As you can see they aren’t typically the first thing that pops into your head when you think of pink. They are a lot more understated and a lot of these double as neutrals or nudes for me. Since my natural coloring leans more muted these colors wear a lot better than colors that are more vivid and pigmented. And on me they pull pink but wearable pink that harmonizes with my natural coloring.

Skin color comes in a variety of depths and saturations. And by experimenting I landed on what I think are my best colors. And I wouldn’t have found them if I’d not tried to experiment with colors I mistakenly thought were not brown skin friendly colors. So experiment and play because never know what you might discover. Maybe, like me, you may find that you like colors and shades you never thought you would.
